A former pupil of the Chetham School of Music claims attempts to expose the sexual abuse by teachers were ‘brushed aside’ and ‘covered up’ in the 1980’s.
Acclaimed Pianist Paul Lewis has been reported as saying “Every pupil was aware of what was going on,” however, adults feared whistle blowing would damage them professionally – not disimilar to the recent Jimmy Savlle scandal.
Police are now investigating allegations from more than 20 women, that they were abused sexually by up to ten male teachers at the school between 1970 and 1999.
